House District 42

Colorado State House of Representatives

January 10th, 2022 Vacancy Election Results for HD42 Colorado State House of Representatives

State House District 42 Representative Dominque Jackson (Democrat) resigned in December of 2021 to join the Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Biden Administration. According to Colorado state law, the Democratic Party of Arapahoe County Precinct Organizers / Precinct Committee Persons and elected Democratic Party officials within the district or the governor of Colorado are responsible for filling the vacancy.

The Vacancy Committee used a form of ranked choice voting. All eligible voters selected their top 3 candidates (no particular order). The candidates receiving the most and 2nd most aggregate votes advanced to the final round of voting. All electors voted for 1 candidate in the final round of voting.

Mandy Lindsay won the seat vacancy on January 10th. Lindsay will serve House District 42 leading up to the November 2022 election. Below are the election results that propelled Mandy Lindsay into office:

All 5 Democratic candidates – Kyle Leggott, Mandy Lindsay, Eric Nelson, Debi Hunter Holen and Gail Pough have filed to run in November of 2022, but they have to get past the caucus and/or signatures needed to be on the primary ballot. One Republican, Cory Parella, has so far filed to run for the seat.  The candidates can choose to either do signatures (1,000), or caucus, which requires 30% of delegate support. The candidates may also choose to use both the caucus and signatures to get on the primary ballot. If the candidate is able to collect at least 1,000 signatures then the threshold for getting on the primary ballot through caucus / county assembly is 10%. The candidates have between January 18th and March 15th to collect signatures. The Democratic Party caucus and county assembly will be held virtually on March 5th at 12pm.
